Sinners Among Saints
Episode 138: The Haight Family Familicide
Michael Haight was a 42-year-old man from Enoch, Utah, who, on January 4, 2023, killed his wife, Tausha Haight; their five children, aged 4 to 17; and Tausha’s mother, Gail Earl, before taking his own life. The tragedy occurred two weeks after Tausha filed for divorce and days after Michael removed firearms from the home, potentially leaving the family defenseless. In 2020, Michael Haight had been investigated for child abuse following allegations from his daughter, Macie, who reported incidents of choking and shaking. Although the investigation concluded there was insufficient evidence for prosecution, the case raised concerns about his behavior. Prior to the killings, Haight had expressed concerns about maintaining a facade of a perfect life, both personally and professionally. He had recently lost his job at Allstate Insurance and was reportedly seeking to start his own agency. The murder-suicide shocked the tight-knit community of Enoch, where many residents knew the family through their shared involvement in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The incident has been a somber reminder of the complexities surrounding domestic violence and the devastating impact of family tragedies.
